Christmas & The Texas Blizzard of 2009
Christmas has come and gone. Although I wasn't able to be with Kimberly and the rest of my family in Maine (and sadly we didn't even get to video conference via Skype due to computer issues) this Holiday Season had Magic of its own. David and I were thrilled to have our new addition with us in the flesh to celebrate this year. Hard to imagine this time last year Gabby was just a wee thing in my belly.
Christmas Eve was wonderful as we had an actual blizzard here in Wichita Falls, Texas. This area has not seen this much snowfall in over 25 years!!! It was (and still is, as it is snowing again as I type this) beautiful. I forgot how much I loved the snow. The way it looks. The way it feels. The way it smells. David got to leave work early in the day on Christmas Eve and spend some time playing in the snow, we got to take lots of pics and bring the baby outside to experience it also. She really didn't understand what all the fuss was about and she tired of it pretty quickly, but David and I were thrilled she got a Wonderfully White First Christmas! The 3 of us opened some wonderful gifts from my Mum & StepDad & Kimberly and then we sat back and relaxed for a bit, partaking in some Holiday Movie watching before baking some Christmas Cookies to leave out for Santa Claus. After letting Gabby have a nibble on one we sprinkled our Magic Reindeer Food outside and attempted a special bedtime story reading of 'Twas the Night Before Christmas. Gabby, of course, was a bit cranky at this point as it was fairly late in the evening, and she seemed more interested in pulling on the pages than anything else. Then off to bed she went!
Christmas Morning David and I actually woke before she did! I think we were anxious for the festivities of the day. After some coffee, yummy cinnamon buns, & feeding the babe...present opening 2009 began! It was wonderful. Gabby got some great gifts, as did Mumma & Daddy and after a bit of time with just the 3 of us Jade came over to visit for a few hours and exchange presents as well.
I greatly missed Kimberly this year. I have missed her since I moved here but sharing in Christmas with one of my daughters and not the other was very hard for me this year. More than anything I look forward to moving back to Maine and being her Mumma NEAR versus FAR. I am SOOOO looking forward to visiting Maine in February!!!
Anyway, all in all Christmas was great. The Blizzard is all over the news here and although the initial bad weather was last week, the city is still in a state of chaos. They just aren't equipped to deal with it here, so as wonderful as it is, I will be glad when the snow here goes away and the Texans stop freaking out and can get back to "normal".
